This project started out as a language study, specifically, what does identity mean and how is it formed? A defining question to be considered was whether identities are being formed in a different way now than they have been in the past; in times of new technologies, methods of communication and knowledge sharing. I was keen to investigate the extent to which we are influenced by the digital spaces we inhabit. This thought influenced a series of images exploring what the internet might look like as a phsical place, using familiar visual references to the physical world; maps, textbooks, terrains and textures. The form of loose pages emulates the overwhelming experience of consuming information online, but retains the tactile nature of print. There is value to be found in questioning why there needs to be a distinction between digital and physical experiences.
