INFO ︎ANATOMY OF A VOICE
This self-directed project began with an image, and an interest in the subtle and often incidental nature of a voice. This image became a symbol, and a tool of expression. It shrinks and grows, swoops or hides, conveying intonation and embedding an often overlooked layer of language back into the written word. Without being able to hear a word being spoken, it is flat and impersonal, neutral. What this project explores is a method of emulating the richness of spoken word, with all its varieties of tone and volume, in visual form. The symbol in question is a found photograph of a sound wave taken using the technical process of Schlieren flow visualisation that allows sounds to be made visible.
